Home Theater Tours of The Week
Take a look at these Home Theaters as they have been featured on DVDWeekend,
the television news magazine.
Theater 1: Venice, CA Home Theater
Designed by: Bradford Wells, Bradford Wells + Associates, Los Angeles, CA
Moving walls, flying monkeys and potato- chip chairs: Oh, my! No, you're
not in Kansas anymore, you're in filmmakers Matt Danciger and Michelle Raven's Switch Studios. It's quite the home
office. Retro décor aside, this theater comes equipped with a state-of-the-art Miller & Kreisel surround-sound system,
a $9,000 Crestron Resource control system (the remote, in laymen's terms), and a 15' screen. All that and comfortable
seating for 22 of their closest friends. Oh, my, indeed.
Featured equipment includes:
- THX Sound System 3,100 watts featuring:
- Miller & Kreisel Professional MPS 2510P screen speakers (6)
- Miller & Kreisel Professional MPS 5410 subwoofers (2)
- Miller & Kreisel Professional SW-150 surround speakers (8)
- Bryston SP1.7 THX Approved Dolby Digital Surround Processor
- NEC HD4K Tri-Digital D-Cinema Projector
- Stewart Filmscreen Corporation Grayhawk Microperf 15' x 6.5' screen
Theater 2: Home Theater For The Rest of Us
Designed by: Agoura Hills Homeowners
If a quarter of a million dollars in equipment alone makes your head
spin, take a lesson from these folks who have home-made speakers. Of course, they happen to have an engineer at home,
but still: home made!
Clean lines, understated elegance, and a color palate based on school
loyalties define this Agoura Hills home theater. Since they didn't want to look at all of their equipment every time
they watch a movie, these homeowners had an inexpensive "eye" built into their cabinetry. This means the
remote works even when cabinet doors are closed! And, to further retain the integrity of the minimalist design, they
had a "panic room" built in, accessible by moving bookcase, where all the wires, equipment and electrical
hook-ups hide. It's the perfect movie-going experience for the Zen enthusiast.
Featured equipment includes:
- Home-made surround-sound speakers:
- Two in front
- Two in rear, wall-mounted
- Subwoofer in "panic room"
- Toshiba 58" HDTV
- Remote-control "eye" $150
- Side-darkening curtains
