More Americans are dumping cable for satellite TV, according to the latest statistics. Frustrated over cable's poor customer service record, bad reception, and slow availability of digital upgrades, many viewers are opting for the state-of-the-art technology that satellite companies are now offering.

Another factor: consumers are fed up with the rising cost of cable. Recently, the US General Accounting Office evaluated cable rates over a five year period. "Cable rates have increased approximately 40 percent well in excess of the approximately 12 percent increase in the general rate of inflation," according to the GAO's report.
